H&C Joinery has been established now for over 10 years, centrally based in the heart of the North East. Our location Within Country Durham allows us to serve local clients as far south as York, and north, up to the Scottish borders, although we supply clients nationwide throughout the UK.
From our workshop we still like to do things the traditional way, We manufacture – by hand – bespoke timber windows, doors, conservatories, gates, built in furniture, specialist mouldings and staircases, well basically anything out of wood!
As well as our manufacturing facility we can also source and supply large volume orders through our partnerships with the leading window and door manufacturers throughout Europe.
We use only the finest quality hardwood and softwood timbers available including Oak, Sapele, Douglass fir, European Redwoods, as well as modern engineered and modified timbers all from certified and sustainable sources.

Handmade Sliding Sash Windows
Designed to complement and enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of any property, sliding sash windows work in both contemporary and traditional settings.
Having been around since the mid-17th century, these windows have certainly stood the test of time, with only slight design changes during the Georgian and Victorian era’s.
Here at Heritage & Contemporary Joinery, we hand-make and install bespoke sliding sash windows the traditional way, with minimal deviations from the original designs that have been used for generations. Our only improvements on the original design is incorporating modern draught proofing, secure locking systems, energy efficient glazing, and applying fully factory finished micro-porous paint finish to your exacting requirements.
We only use the finest timber and always recommend our customers opt for either engineered timber sections or Accoya – modified timber with a guarantee of up to an incredible 50 years!
Traditional Box Sash Windows
Perfectly at home in both classic and contemporary properties, the traditional sash window boasts a wide outer box frame, used to conceal the pulley and weights system. This easy-to-use system has been utilised for centuries in order to counterbalance the weight of the sashes for ease of opening. A simple but effective operating mechanism allows sash windows to be crafted in larger sizes, as seen with the large windows commonly found in Victorian and Georgian properties.
Extremely versatile, functional, and durable, traditional box sash windows sit behind the first leaf of a masonry wall in a rebated reveal, only showing a narrow site line of the wide outer box frame. With narrow glazing bar profiles they create an elegant look for period properties.

Handmade Bespoke Doors

All of our doors can be fully bespoke, or a reproduction of an existing period door. After all, a striking front door is the first impression a visitor will get when entering your home. We can also manufacture internal doors to suit existing door styles, or in non-standard sizes, which are common place in period properties.
At H&C Joinery we can create doors with all the look of a period design, but with the addition of modern and secure multi-point looking systems, 3D hinges, energy efficient glazing and improved draught seals. We can supply doors fully finished in any paint or stain colour thanks to our onsite spraying facilities, using market leading paint finishing specialists to provide a long lasting, durable finish.

Painting
We firmly believe in putting quality, functionality and timeless style first, going above and beyond to ensure that our products are equipped to stand the test of time.
With this in mind, you can rest assured that all of our products are available fully factory finished, with the option to apply any of the major leading manufacturer’s paint systems on request.
Our preferred supplier is Teknos, one of the world’s leading industrial coatings manufacturers for external wood coatings. Their paint system is used by the majority of the major European window and door manufacturer.
Here at Heritage & Contemporary Joinery, we meticulously follow the Teknos paint procedure to ensure that all our joinery items are end-grain sealed, with fine fillers, anti-stain primers and waterborne topcoats all applied, as per manufacturer’s 3-coat system. With the correct aftercare, the Teknos paint system can last up to 10 years, with up to 12 years when applied on Accoya products.
We can supply finishes mixed in any RAL number, British Standards colour, or any of the colours from some of the most popular independent paint companies such as Farrow & Ball, Little Green and Benjamin Moore. We also can also offer painting in dual colours which allows you to use a striking feature colour externally, with a more neutral colour internally.
